Duke of Edinburgh

At St Dominic’s Priory School, we offer the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award to pupils in Years 9 and 10, giving them the opportunity to complete their Bronze Award and, where appropriate, progress to Silver.

We do not run the programme in Year 11, as we encourage pupils to focus fully on their GCSE studies at this important stage. We recommend that pupils wishing to continue with Silver or complete Gold do so at college or university, where they can undertake all sections of the award with a single educational provider.

Each participant is supported by a dedicated DofE Manager, who is available to provide guidance and help pupils identify suitable activities that meet the requirements of each section. In addition, pupils attend group meetings and support sessions to ensure their eDofE logs are completed accurately and submitted on time, helping them successfully achieve their award.

Why do DofE?

DofE is a life-changing adventure which will help you develop the skills you need for your future life and work.

DofE helps you stand out from the crowd when applying for jobs, colleges or universities.

Who can do it?

The DofE is open to everyone – No matter what your starting point, it’ll be an adventure.

Pupils set your own goals that are achievable for you.

Bronze Award

Within this award pupils complete 3 months in volunteering, physical and skills, with an additional 3 months on their preferred activity. Pupils also take part in an expedition training day and a two day one night expedition.

Silver Award

Within this award pupils complete 6 months in volunteering, and either the physical and skills activity for 6 months and the remaining for 3 months. Pupils also take part in an expedition training weekend and a three day two night expedition.

The Expedition

We partner with Gateway Adventures Ltd to deliver our expedition programme, supporting pupils in developing the camping skills required for success. Students attend a dedicated training day led by Gateway Adventures Ltd, where they are introduced to essential camping techniques, outdoor cooking, survival skills, and basic first aid.

Gateway Adventures Ltd also mentor pupils in route planning and navigation in preparation for the expedition. During the expedition itself, both Gateway Adventures staff and St Dominic’s staff provide support and supervision at designated checkpoints throughout the day.
